PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani has directed strict security measures, including preventing firing in the air, to ensure peaceful environment on the occasion of Eidul Fitr.

He issued the directives while addressing a police darbar at police lines here on Saturday.

The police chief directed the participants to coordinate with traders’ community and elders in preparation of a security plan to ensure peace and harmony on the occasion of Eid.

He said that KP police had become a role model for others because of their brave role in war against terrorism. The IGP directed the jawans to provide peaceful atmosphere to the general public so they could observe Eidul Fitr with peace and religious fervor.

Mr Durrani directed the traffic police to strictly check documents of motorcyclists, take special care of poor and senior citizens and demonstrate decent behaviour with everyone.

The police chief said that jawans should remain alert to the situation as the enemy could always take full advantage of the slackness and negligence on their part. The IGP directed the police to intensify checking of vehicles and people at all the entry and exit points and in markets through bomb disposal unit and sniper dogs.

Mr Durrani said that the provincial government had provided 1,500 safety helmets to police to ensure their protection during fight against anti-state elements. He said that he had the pride to command a brave force, saying that training of police personnel would be ensured at all costs. The provincial police chief said that thanks to streamlining of promotion policy in the force, the deserving personnel would get promotion on merit.
