TIMERGARA: The wildlife department has asked the people to play their role in conservation and protection of wildlife and to abstain from illegal hunting of wild birds and animals.

Talking to journalists here on Friday, the divisional forest officer Mohammad Hussain said that the department was trying its level best to conserve the precious wildlife resources in the region. He said that Hasham Hazrat of Khall had shared pictures of protected birds (Koklass and Monal pheasant) on social media site, Facebook, which he had illegally hunted in Kumrat area of Dir Kohistan.

He said the poacher was arrested and was produced in the court the other day, where he was fined Rs50,500 for illegally hunting the birds.

“The department expects the general public to play their role in conservation and protection of wildlife and abstain from illegal hunting of wild birds and animals,” the DFO said, adding that wildlife conservation had great importance for ecosystem and environmental stability.
