KARACHI: A seminary teacher was shot dead in Quaidabad on Friday evening, the police said.

They added that when Qari Fazl Rehman, 35, left his residence in Old Muzaffarabad Colony for his Rehmania seminary after Iftar on a motorcycle, armed motorcyclists attacked him and fled. He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The victim originally hailing from Batgram did not have affiliation with any religious party, claimed Quaidabad SHO Amanullah Marvat.

He added the deceased used to teach the Quran to pupils. The police were probing into the exact motive for the murder.

Young man gunned down

A young man was found shot dead in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Friday morning, according to police.

They said the body with a bullet wound in the abdomen was found on a main road in Block-7 and shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was identified through his CNIC as Mohammed Khan, 27, hailing from Mirpur Sakro.

The body was later shifted to the Edhi morgue as his relatives could not be traced immediately, said the police.

Onlooker shot dead by policeman

A man looking out of the window of his home was shot dead when a police constable fired his gun into the air during a quarrel with his in-laws in Sharifabad on Friday, the police said.

They added that Tariq Bhatti, the constable posted at the Special Branch became involved in heated arguments with his in-laws in F.C. Area over some ‘monetary’ dispute.

In a fit of anger, the policeman started firing into the air during which a bullet hit Sajid Salam, who was looking out of the window of his home. The bullet proved fatal.

The police constable was arrested and a pistol recovered from his possession, said Sharifabad SHO Shaukat Raza. The deceased was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Builder gunned down

A builder was shot dead by motorcycle-riding assailants in PIB Colony late on Thursday evening, police said.

They said Rizwan Butt, 40, was driving his car when the armed pillion riders stopped him on University Road near old Chandni cinema and pumped a bullet to his chest, which proved fatal.

The victim, a resident of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Block-6, was a builder, said PIB SHO Maqsood Raza, adding the family appeared to be reluctant to share information with investigators, which could help them to ascertain the exact motive behind the murder.

Body found

The body of young man was found wrapped in cloth in the Lyari river along Akbar Road in Shershah, police said. The body, three to four days old, was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi for a post-mortem examination, they added.
