LAHORE: Usama Qamar of the Government High School, Husain Khan Wala, Kasur, has earned the top position in the Lahore Board matriculation annual examination for 2014.

Usama Qamar (roll number 149742) scored 1,076 marks out of 1,100 marks. He also topped in science group among boys.

Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore, chairman Dr Nasrullah Virk announced the names and marks of position-holders at a news conference at the board offices on Thursday evening. Formal results will be declared at a medal-awarding ceremony at Alhamra Hall on Friday (today). MNA Hamza Shahbaz is scheduled to preside over the ceremony.

Ten positions (including shared) out of 12 have been clinched by the students from private institutions. Five public school students have also joined the high achievers’ club in the secondary school annual examination. Of the four overall top positions including second shared position, three students belong to private institutions.

The overall second position has been shared by Ali Hussain of Pak Garrison High School (Boys), Housing Colony, Nankana Sahib, and Sajeeha Ashraf of Crescent Kids Campus High School for Girls, 32-Chenab Block, Allama Iqbal Town, by obtaining 1,072 marks each.

Ali Hussain (roll number 152917) also bagged second position in science group among boys, while Sajeeha Ashraf (roll number 127387) clinched first position in the group among girls.

Ramisha Aslam (roll number 130178) of Society Public Girls High School, Mughalpura, Lahore, bagged overall third position in the examination as well as second position in science group among girls. She scored 1,071.

In science group among boys, Umair Iftikhar of Government High School, Nangal Sahdan, Sheikhupura, secured third position with 1,069 marks.

In science group among girls, the third position has been shared by four students with 1,069 marks each. They are: Maria (roll number 138463) of Adabistan-i-Soophia Higher Secondary School (Girls), Bahawalpur, Road, Lahore; Saman Suhail (roll number 125053) of Education Centre High School for Girls, Canal Bank, Lahore; Fatima Naeem (roll number 119273) of LDA Model Girls High School, 416-E-II Johar Town; and Maham Noor (roll number 119921) of KIPS High School for Girls 51-A, Johar Town, Lahore.

In humanities group among boys, Shamrooz Ali (roll number 290759) of Government Public Model High School, Nain Sukh, Lahore, clinched first position with 992 marks. Muhammad Rizwan (roll number 262421) of Allama Iqbal Public Boys High School, Raiwind Road, Kasur, secured second position with 988 marks. Rizwan Ali (roll number 272693) of Millat Public High School for Boys, Mananwala, Sheikhupura district, bagged the third position with 986 marks.

In humanities group among girls, Tayyaba Afzal (roll number 247657) of Farooqui Girls High School, Karim Park, Ravi Road, bagged first position with 1,026 marks. Tayyaba Tariq Butt (roll number 244117) of Pak Angels Girls High School, Punj Peer Road, Sultanpura, Lahore, got second position with 1,013 marks. Amna Saleem (roll number 244900) of Government Pak Standard Girls High School, Shadbagh, Lahore, got third position with 1,012 marks.Meanwhile, Lahore Board Controller of Examinations Anwar Farooq told the media that 187,335 candidates had applied out of whom 185,099 candidates appeared for the examination.
