Rs20m collected for IDPs

MULTAN: A friendly cricket match between Multan Tigers and Pakistan XI helped collect about Rs20 million for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) of the North Waziristan Agency.

Pakistan XI led by Faisal Iqbal won the toss and elected to bat first in the T20 match played at the jam-packed Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday night.

The match not only provided a great festivity to fans here but also helped collect decent amount for the IDPs.

Playing first, Pakistan XI made 195 runs from 20 overs at loss of five wickets. Faisal Iqbal and Sami Aslam were top scorers as they contributed 47 runs each to set a target of 196.

Chasing 196, Multan Tigers, captained by Inzamam-ul-Haq, scored only 180 runs in the allotted overs, losing six wickets.

Babar Ali was the top scorer.

On the occasion, Faisal gave a cheque of Rs2 million for the IDPs while another cheque of Rs200,000 was given on behalf of Inzamam besides special persons’ cheque of Rs100,000 was also donated to the IDPS.

Provincial Sports and Law Minister Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan distributed prizes among players.
