FAISALABAD: Police on Monday nominated PML-N MPA Rana Shoaib Idrees in the case registered under terrorism and different sections of the PPC and raided more than a dozen places including a spot of his business partner to arrest the legislator on Monday.

Earlier, City Police Officer Dr Haider Ashraf constituted three teams headed by Jaranwala, Madina Town and investigation SPs to arrest the suspect and his accomplices.

The case had been registered against the MPA and his henchmen on Saturday night on charges of thrashing policemen, attacking and ransacking the police station.

CM orders action against MPA

Sources said police had decided to refrain from nominating the MPA in the case until findings of the inquiry initiated on the direction of the CPO. However, they said the MPA did not join the inquiry. They said the probe was incomplete without recording statement of the parliamentarian.

After collection of evidence through different sources, the police had nominated the MPA on Monday through a supplementary statement.

Earlier, his name was included among the suspects and police mentioned that a political personality had led the mob and thrashed the policemen.

Police raided various places on Monday to net the MPA and other people but could not nab the legislator.

A raid was also conducted at a place owned by a former MPA who was business partner of Rana Idrees.

Sources said the MPA did not secure his pre-arrest bail from any court.

Three policemen were sent to police lines on charges of leaking secret information to the MPA, sources said.

The CPO confirmed to Dawn that Mr Idrees was nominated on Monday.

Over 50 booked for raiding police station

He said three teams led by as many SPs had conducted several raids but could not arrest the suspect. He said each and every place was being monitored where the MPA could be hiding.

He said the MPA had not joined the inquiry being conducted by the SSP (investigation) and Jaranwala SP. However, two dozen other suspects had recorded their statements, he said.
