BAHAWALPUR: Three universities of south Punjab -- Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB), Government Sadiq Women University and Ghazi University of Dera Ghazi Khan -- opened admissions on Monday to all graduate and post-graduate classes and programmes.

An announcement to this effect was made at a meeting of faculties by IUB Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar, who is also holding the additional charge of two other universities.

The VC said the online admission introduced for the first time in the IUB about two years ago would continue up to Sept 30, 2014.

He said applicants from any corner of the world could submit their online admission forms after unloading these from university’s website.

He said the UNO ranked IUB 6th university in Pakistan where it was ranked 8th. He said every applicant would have to pay an extra Rs50 for the IDPs relief fund.

He expressed the hope that about 50,000 applicants would submit online admission forms and as such a sum of Rs2.5 million would be generated for the IDPs fund.

Later, admission committee chairman Prof Dr Faizul Hassan Naseem briefed participants with the help of slides and informed them that a central admission cell and a compliance cell had been established to oversee the online admission in the IUB.

He said the classes would begin on Nov 3 after the completion of submitting forms by Sept 30 and vetting of the procedure.

The IUB VC and Desert Rangers Commandant Brig Riazul Hassan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to have collaboration to provide accommodation and reserve a separate block for students of women’s university adjacent to the IUB’s Rangers campus.

VC’s: The Punjab Higher Education Department has invited applications for the posts of vice chancellor of the Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) and four other public sector universities in the province.

The VCs’ posts will be filled through an advertisement in the University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila; University of Gujrat; University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore; and Government College University, Gujrat.

The maximum age limit for applicants will be 65 years and the salary package will be of the professor at the Tenure Track System. The last date for the submission of applications has been fixed Aug 15.

The four-year term of sitting IUB Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar will expire on Tuesday (today).
