Turkey PM urges US to engage in 'self-criticism' over Gaza

ANKARA: Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday called on its Nato ally the United States to engage in “self-criticism” after it labelled his comments on Israel's Gaza assault “offensive”.
“If America still says 'Israel is using its right to self-defence' it is America that needs to engage in self-criticism,” Erdogan told the TGRT news channel.
A staunch advocate of the Palestinian cause, Erdogan has stepped up his criticism of Israel's operation in the besieged Gaza Strip, accusing the Jewish state of carrying out “state terrorism” and a “genocide” of Palestinians.
On Friday, US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki branded Erdogan's comments “offensive and wrong”.
“When there are concerns we have about comments made or actions taken, even when it is a Nato ally, we certainly don't hesitate to make those concerns known,” she said.
Erdogan said Sunday he was sticking to his comments, accusing Israel of using “disproportionate force” and killing Palestinians “mercilessly. “
“How can we ignore this? How can a country like the United States turn a blind eye to this?” he asked.
“As a member of the UN Security Council, it needs to act fairly. “More than 60 Palestinians were killed Sunday as Israeli forces pounded northern Gaza, taking the toll from the deadliest assault on the enclave in five years to over 400.
A Turkish delegation headed by foreign ministry undersecretary Feridun Sinirlioglu will pay a working visit to the United States on Monday, the ministry said in a statement.
The delegation is scheduled to meet with senior officials including from the State Department and National Security Council for talks on bilateral, regional and global issues.

The Turkish Prime Minister has spoken what many Americans by now must also find offensive about Israeli policy. Israel spells JUSTICE as Just Us. There is no balanced response only excessive response.
So long as Israel believes and embraces a Just Us policy that ignores the rights of others, treats Palestinians as second class people, inflicts pain, suffering, intolerance and humiliation upon them. So long as it believes the destruction, fear and hate it produces by these actions need not be followed by efforts to rebuild, help and improve the lives of Palestinians, these conflicts will continue for many decades to come, with Israel always claiming to have the right to self defense, even as it encourages the fear, hate and anger that produces that need to defend itself.

This gentle soul has always become the voice of Palestinians and has never withdrawn himself from criticizing Israel upon his merciless acts. I still remember once I was talking to one of the Palestinian in Germany after Erdogan slammed Israel in one of the conference in Switzerland and left the conference, I asked him of how he feels about Erdagon when most of the Arabs hate Turkey and he did this kind of act to side Palestine when no other Arab country could speak out a single word against Israel. He replied by saying "Erdogan ist der Mann" which means that Erdogan is the "Man". He further narrated that the rest of Arab leaders are eunuch and if they (Palestinians) see somebody for them is him (Erdogan), This time again we could see that he is the man who is voicing against Israel and the rests are "eunuch"

But Hamas and Hezbollah continue to attack Israel with terrorist methods, by which they become their own worst enemy. US opinion and policy cannot induce compromise or peace when Hamas makes it clear that terror will continue and that it prides itself on killing teenagers and civilians. I cannot myself condemn Israel's response to what has occurred. We may and should consider proportionality, but to my mind 1,700 rockets (think of them as suicide bombers) and "only" 380 Palestinians reported killed in contrast to 14 Israeli killed aren't as disproportional as you may think. The Waziristan operation has reportedly killed 484 terrorists at the cost of 26 soldiers.
I personally favor the Waziristan model: Israel should set up camps just inside Israel and invite all Gaza civilians to come there. Then they should finish off any Hamas resistance.

I will give you a hint, there are no car dealerships in concentration camps, no restaurants nor businesses and people are not allowed to leave on their own volition. I suggest you read about Dachou to see what life in a concentration camp is really like, furnaces, gas chambers, forced labor. Please if you can enlighten me to why Gaza, an unoccupied territory for the past 8 years is considered a concentration camp?

If they can't take the Isreali response the do not provoke them. It is really quite simple logic which is obviously not their strong suit.

Entire world knows that there are deep divisions within Muslim community and most of the wars and unrest is because of intolerance between different denominations of same religion. All entry points are blocked, their movement restricted.After 3 Israeli boys were killed, one Palestinian boy was picked up, tortured and then murdered. Palestinian land is being confisticated and on it Jewish settlements are being built. If Palestinians don't fight back with minimum resources what other choice do they have ? Even in times of "peace" countless Palestinians die due to lack of access to proper nutrition and basic supplies. We are not even talking about good economy and living standards.
Let's not forget the fact that the Israel is illegally occupying those lands. You push people into concentration camps (Gaza) and force them to live in dire conditions, what else do you expect?

As for USA, its whole nationscape is so much overwhelmed by the clout of Israel that none there ,except perhaps great objective thinkers like Noam Chomsky , can dare to publicly question or challenge any stance or action of Israel. For politicians ,it will be nothing short of suicide.Obama did dare to sort of murmur a hushed up remorse on the loss of life,though; in a ( mid-term) election year --.

@David Salmon Perhaps you dont know the history of Palestine conflict.Israel occupation of Palestine in 1948 was illegal. They further extended their occupation to West Bank and east Jerusalem through war in 1967. UNO has declared occupation illegal and passed several resolutions to get this vacated. Israel is constructing settlements after settlements on West Bank against UNO resolutions. Israel is not ready to take back refugees displaced in 1948 wars. Palestinians legitimate right to freedom is not accepted and and their peaceful struggle is met with brute force. Palestinians houses are bulldozed to build settlements for jews brought from all over the world. Although Palestinian Authority has accepted Israel right to exist there is not letting in brutality. Gaza is virtually a cage and people living there are denied basic living facilities and connection with out side world.Western media does not high light and give this back ground when reporting on Palestinians resistance and harmless rocket fires.
