KARACHI: Two favourites and an equal number of outsiders shared honours in the four-race card at the Gym­khana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The day commenced when ranked outsider chestnut filly Green Barbie lowered the colours of public fancy bay filly Fly Free by imposing to a facile five-length victory to land the opener that was contested for over four-and-a-half furlongs.

Bay horse Vieto Power was placed third seven lengths behind among seven starters while colt Popular Boy completed the board finishing a further a length and-a-half away.

Rider of Hot Boy, Nazil Hussain, was suspended for one month and fined Rs5,000 for dangerous riding.

The punters, however, heaved a sigh of relief when bay horse Business Man obliged all and sundry edging colt Bugash Bugash by head to make it two on trot in the next.

The victorious colt was given a perfect ride by rider Mohammad Essa.

Mare Pampas Grass and colt Zunain Prince secured third and fourth places respectively on the board.

Another jolt was in store for horse racing connoisseurs when colt Sher Dil gets past public fancy filly Loyal Lady by half-a-length to claim the third race.

Filly Jal Pari had to be content with third place three lengths away while colt Tejori completed the frame further beaten by eight lengths.

Favourite dark bay horse Macho Man put up stunning performance when he overcame mare National Queen by 11 lengths to win honours in the fourth and concluding race.

Meanwhile, the next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Saturday (July 19).
