CCTV footage captures shocking murder of Karachi policeman

KARACHI: DawnNews received footage on Tuesday of a policeman who was recently killed when unknown assailants opened fire on him in Karachi.
The murder was captured on a CCTV camera which showed two unidentified men riding a motorcycle spraying bullets at Assistant Sub-Inspector Tahir Ghazi when he was travelling from Kashmir road to Khudadad Chowrangi.
The shocking video shows Ghazi sustain fatal bullet wounds in broad daylight with traffic on the road. The footage captures one of the assailants spraying bullets at the policeman's upper body, following which Ghazi swerved to his right and collapsed at the side of the road.
The attackers then drove up to Ghazi, and one assailant got off the motorcycle, walked up to the wounded officer and took his pistol. The assailants then fled the scene.
Ghazi was on his way to duty from home when he was killed. He was deployed at the Soldier Bazaar police station.
Karachi, the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism.
Targeted operations led by Rangers’ forces with the support of police are ongoing in the city under a directive issued by the federal government against criminals already identified by federal, military and civilian agencies.

The investigators need public's help in capturing these senseless criminals. If we don't help, we could be the next victim of violence. I can see there were two Rikshaws and two motor cyclists who happened to be on the scene and saw the shooting. These people must come forward and provide the help in identifying the culprits. Its your civic duty to help the law enforcement agencies if you want live in peace in the city.

I am sure there are many honest and sincere police officers serving the poeple. My experince with Karachi police has been bad. A few times that I had to go to local Poilice station, I heard screams coming from inside which gave me nightmares for several days.

May Allah have mercy on departed soul and his family. We have been tolerating killings and terrorism for too long which led to this lawlessness. The killers know that they will not be punished.
We have examples of two neighboring countries China and Iran who show zero tolerance to any terrorism, whenever any thing happens their they make sure that they find, prosecute and then execute the terrorist within 3 months.
We on the other hand have not punished a single terrorist for last 3-4 decades, the most we do is kill some in extra judicial killing or army operation. Exposing and punishing the terrorists and their leaders will be far more effective in preventing others from joining them.

@Mohammed A. Sukhera-USA So sad to hear innocent lives loosing in pakistan. What to do when our own justice system let the terrorist walk away freely and do what ever they want to do. Negotiating with the terrorist and released the terrorist and sure this will happen until the system is clean no corruption more human until then there is no hope country like pakistan. Hope they get up from the dream and realize what they lost so far.

The only thing Pakistan, and specially Karachi needs is a Military operation, Pakistan cannot be ruled by civilian government, as they all are pocketing for themselves, no one wants to do anything for the people of Pakistan, civilians. Very sad and shocking, look at the confidence these killers have no fear at all.
In most developed countries, when a cop got shot or hurt. The police department take it very seriously and they go after the criminals with all resources and power. Pakistan police should do the same go after them demolish them.
So next time no one can think of killing a cop.

I hope Mr. Ghazi rests in peace and my sincerest condolences to his family. It is a sad reality that police as an institution has lost empathy from general populace. The idea of honor and respect for authority needs to be developed and this gap needs to be bridged by conduct of police force along with changing perceptions by combined efforts of media and government. I can also recall the incident with attach on Sri Lankan team where so many policemen lost their lives in line of duty and there was not even significant mention of their sacrifice or plight of their families after their demise.
Secondly, what the heck is wrong with readers of this paper? This story seems secondary to "Item Number" story in terms of viewership. The comments also fail to show any disgust at ghastly crime or any respect for fallen policemen.
