LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday extended a stay against the proceedings before an election tribunal on an appeal of PTI chairman Imran Khan seeking recounting in NA-122, Lahore.

Justice Ijazul Ahsan was hearing a petition moved by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq against the tribunal's proceedings.

Counsel for Imran appeared before the court and sought more time to file reply to the petition. The judge allowed the request and adjourned the hearing till July 7.

Mr Sadiq in his petition stated that after facing defeat in 2013 general election Imran filed an appeal before the election tribunal for recounting of votes.

He said the documents and affidavits submitted by Mr Khan to the tribunal were not original but the photocopies. He said the tribunal could not hold proceedings unless original documents were provided to it. He asked the court to stop tribunal from holding proceedings of the appeal.

Justice Ahsan had passed the stay order against the tribunal's proceedings last year in November.
