Gen Raheel meets Afghan ambassador at GHQ

ISLAMABAD: Afghanistan's ambassador to Pakistan Janan Mosazai, held a meeting with Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif at General Headquarters, on Wednesday.

"During the meeting, ongoing operation in North Waziristan Agency and matters of mutual interest including measures to improve security along Pakistan – Afghanistan border, were discussed," a short statement issued from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

During the meeting General Raheel took up the matter of cross border terrorism at Pak-Afghan border.

He also asked Afghan defence authorities to destroy Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) hideouts in Afghanistan's Kunar and Nuristan provinces where fleeing Taliban militants from Pakistan and getting shelter and support and carry out attacks on Pakistan border areas.

Sources said this is the first diplomatic contact by Pakistan Army with Afghanistan since formal military operation in North Waziristan tribal region was launched on Sunday.

Afghan ambassador assured that Afghanistan would extend full cooperation to Pakistan in its ongoing operation against militants in NW region and that the message to destroy the hideouts would be conveyed to top Afghan defence authorities.
