Foreigners’ security to be stepped up

RAWALPINDI: After recent target killings in the city, the Punjab Home Secretary Azam Suleman on Saturday alerted police and all the security agencies.
He also directed that a special security plan be prepared for Ramazanul Mubarak and steps be taken to promote religious harmony and discourage and eliminate sectarianism.
He was speaking at a high level meeting which was attended among others by the Punjab Inspector General Police, Khan Baig and Commissioner Zahid Saeed.
The Punjab chief minister took serious notice of the target killings in Rawalpindi and asked the home department and police to maintain law and order and improve the security of foreign investors in the district.
The home secretary said that the Punjab government has initiated various mega projects in energy and transport sectors and foreign engineers and experts were also working on these projects and for this reason, special attention be given to the security of foreigners. No negligence or slackness would be tolerated in this respect, he said.
He said the officers of security agencies should work hard for strengthening and improving security measures as without peace and security, development was not possible in any country.
IG Police Khan Baig underlined the need of using all security equipments including high quality cameras and other detecting equipments to keep a check on anti-state elements.
He said that police should maintain coordinated liaison with security agencies and supervision be ensured specially in border areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He also directed foolproof security at airport, important installations, sensitive and public places. Commissioner Zahid Saeed said that close cooperation was being ensured with all security agencies for maintaining peace in the division.
He said foolproof security would be provided to foreigners working on various developmental projects in the division. RPO Akhtar Hayat Lalika gave an update of law and order situation in the division and informed the meeting that police was utilising all available resources to maintain law and order and ensure security.
He said that a comprehensive security plan would be prepared for Ramazan.
