GUJRANWALA: Students of the Government RA Girls’ Elementary School took out a procession on Friday in protest at their likely eviction from their school building by the Auqaf Department and blocked GT Road at Sheranwala Bagh.

Dawn learnt the school was shifted to the building near Chaman Shah Road three years ago. The Auqaf Department sought evacuation of the building and set its auction on May 20.

School girls protested the move and carrying banners and placards chanted slogans against the government. They vowed not to vacate the building.

During the protest, minor girls Aleesha and Zonaira of Class-V fell unconscious. They were treated at District Headquarters Hospital.

School principal Jehan Ara said there were 1,200 girl students enrolled with the school. She said she had informed the senior officials about the auction.
