SUKKUR: Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq has said that it is due to practical steps of the government that the system of Pakistan Railways is on the path of improvement.

But the system, he said, which had collapsed over a period of years could not be built up in days.

Talking to reporters at the Rohri railway station on Wednesday, he said a change was also taking shape in the culture of Railways.

In replying to a question, the minister said strict patrolling of the railway tracks and other railway installations was being carried out from time to time.

He said groups of anti-social elements were involved in targeting the railway tracks and exploding gas supply pipelines.

He said security of the railways tracks which had been targeted in the past had been intensified, disclosing that the accused of three previous attacks on railway tracks had been arrested.
