ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) is planning a massive rally in Islamabad on May 11 to mark the one-year anniversary of the 2013 general elections, which party leaders maintain was ‘a fraudulent general election’.

Nearly all party leaders, from Chairman Imran Khan, down to the tehsil-level office bearers, are burning the midnight oil, so to speak, to make the May 11 event a massive show.

Although the party has staged impressive rallies in the past, the chairman wants the May 11 to serve as a wake-up call for the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and remind them that they shouldn’t take their power for granted, Dr Arif Alvi, a senior PTI leader and Member of the National Assembly from NA-250, Karachi, told Dawn.

The party has been insisting the PML-N manipulated the results of the 2013 elections to claim an overwhelming majority.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has also been threatening to launch a movement against the government if his party’s concerns were not addressed.

When asked if the May 11 event would be followed by more rallies, Alvi said, “Our main focus at the moment is to mark May 11 with a massive show of power and to put our message across to the concerned quarters.”
