ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary committee asked the Employees Old-age Benefits Institution (EOBI) to enhance its pension to at least Rs6,000 per month, on Monday.

At present, a pension of Rs3,600 per month is paid to aged people who have served in government and private organisations, and have crossed the age of 60 years.

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development met at the Parliament House to discuss the functions and performance of EOBI.

Member of National Assembly (MNA) Mir Amir Ali Khan Magsi presided over the meeting.

The committee took a serious note of, what the participants termed as, meagre pension being paid to retired citizens by the EOBI, and recommended that it should be increased to Rs6,000 per month.

The committee asked the social welfare organisation to submit complete details of its collections from 2008 to 2013. It also inquired about the promotions made in EOBI, after firing 358 employees on allegations of illegal appointments.

It also issued directions to present the fact-finding report of 2010-2011 of EOBI in the meeting.
