Referring to the Thar coal project he said the Thari people had the first right over coal and added that solar energy-run plants would be set up in villages. He also directed that formation of the Thar Development Authority be ensured. …

Mr Zardari’s visit was late as he [should have] visited when children were dying [in the region]. However … if these promises are implemented, it will improve the situation. … He should ensure that the provincial government takes immediate measures regarding his recent promises.

As far as opening a university for Thar is concerned, this is very important as it is nearly impossible for Thari youth … to get higher education in big cities. A large number of youth are deprived of higher education because this area lacks any such facility. … Promises alone will not change the situation in Thar but effective implementation can.…— (April 20)
