ACCORDING to an ISPR press release, Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif has said the army respects other institutions but will preserve the pride of its own institution at every cost.
This is a timely statement from the new army chief whose institution has been the victim of a barrage of unwarranted criticism in recent months. It is sad that while our officers and soldiers are embracing Shahadat while protecting the country from internal and external enemies, some people are busy ridiculing the forces on one pretext or another.

The nation respects and has great love for its Army. COAS can protect the pride of the institution by ensuring that the Army stays out of politics with focus on its job of protecting the borders. The citizens have the right to freedom of expression and this right needs to be respected and understood by all institutions. The Nation has the right to govern itself without Army intervention/s. Extra judicial actions are unwarranted. Matters related to citizens are jurisdiction of the judicial system and not the Army

With due respect Brig Zamin, the armed forces is subservient to the civilian government, not the other way around.
The armed forces should do what is meant to do, i.e. defend the borders and stop milking cows and manufacturing porridge and becoming property developers.
Last but not the least, leave foreign policy to the civilian ELECTED representatives (however imperfect they may be).
We respect the jawaans and officers for embracing martyrdom for our country, however, please note most of them have been a victim of the armed forces' misadventures.

Mr. Zamin, the people of Pakistan is with the armed forces of Pakistan and we know fully well our independence and security rest in the hands of our armed forces. The NRO corrupt system is democratic only in name and do not represent the very wast majority. But GHQ must realize the role of General Musharraf in bringing the NRO monster to power. Pakistan Zindabad!

Sir, we fully support our brave armed forces. These feudal lords have entered politics only for their benefit and everyone knows how corrupt they are. We do support democracy but what we have is not democracy, there are no party elections, no local body elections. This, what Dr. Atta rightly says, is FEUDOCRACY. In Pakistan's history, the best gains were obtained during President Ayub's time and then in President Musharraf's time.
Marshal law was only imposed when corruption by politicians was so high that common man started praying for relief and Allah provided relief in the form of President Ayub and President Musharraf. This FEUDOCRACY only benefits the feudal lords,

as long as the army respects the rule of law and does not interefere in the civil government and judicial affairs it will gain the respect of its people but if it indulges in roguery and mischief it will lose that respect.The onus for this is on the army chief.

What about the 50000 xxxx civilians killed, did they also "embrace Shahadat" in pursuance of the strategic depth.

The whole nation is accusing Generals and Brigadiers of the wrongs and not a single soul is accusing Army Jawans. I wish Generals and Brigadiers show smallest tiny courage and face law and not unnecessarily drag whole army into this. Why Generals and Brigadiers hide behind poor Jawans? Is this bravery? It is not, Our soldiers and Jawans are honest and brave don't mix them with corrupt Brigadiers and Generals. We all know what the Generals and Brigadiers are up to very soon the Jawans will know the real face of Generals and Brigadiers. We all have suffered when rich brigadiers supported rich feudals of Sindh to grab poor people lands through Birgadiers backing during Musharraf's tenure. It's people's curse on Birgadiers and Musharraf and Allah will do justice one day soon. Have courage and be brave and don't hide behind loyal brave honest Jawans and soldiers we salute them but not Birgadiers and Generals

@Khaled:
Unfortunately, civilian deaths don't matter. All poor civilians are in jail today while all Generals (and perhaps retired Birgadiers, Colonels, etc) are only rallying to save Musharraf from going to jail. It was these Generals and Birgadiers who took us to Afghan war in the first place, why they are not being held accountable? If Musharraf is kept out of jail then we civilians should rally and get every poor civilian out of jail too. Islam teaches equality, full stop.

Army has done a lot of wonderful jobs, really admirable, but army has also made mistakes, some were terrible mistakes. No wall has ever been built with only one side.

@Naseer:
In democracy, whoever is elected by public gets to rule for a fixed period. It is public's responsibility to elect good and clean representatives whereas it is EC job to ensure free & fair elections. Public has a choice to stop electing feudal class

@AW:
Well said! Army should only protect Pakistan's borders and provide rescue and help in case of natural calamities befalling the country. Political problems, however, should be resolved by the politicians and legal matters by the judiciary.
