RAWALPINDI: Punjab beat Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in back to back games while Sindh overpowered Balochistan on the opening day of the three-day National Women Softball Championship which commenced here at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Punjab players were in terrific form as they first overcame Islamabad 13-2 and then went on to beat KP 7-4.

The Sindh players also displayed excellent skills as they took the better of Balochistan by an innings and one run. Earlier, Balochistan also met with success as they beat Islamabad 7-5.

Six teams from across the country including defending champions Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad and Police Department are participating in the championship.

Members Provincial Assembly (MPAs) Raja Hanif Advocate and Tehsin Fawad attended the inaugural ceremony as chief guests while District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sajid Zafar Dall presided over the function.

Addressing the participants, Raja Hanif said the government was giving special attention to promotion of sports activities in the country and holding of softball championship was an honour for Rawalpindi.

The final of the championship will be played on Sunday.
