HYDERABAD: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said the ongoing targeted operation in Karachi will continue till the last terrorist is alive in the metropolis.

“Unrelenting police action against criminals, extortionists and terrorists is yielding good results,” Mr Shah said while speaking to journalists after attending a wedding ceremony of the nephew of PPP MPA Mohammad Nawaz Chandio in Sobho Khan Chandio village near Kario Ghanwar town in Badin on Wednesday.

He rejected the impression that every murder in Karachi was a result of targeted killing and said that Karachi was the largest city of the country where killings occurred for many reasons other than targeted killings.

He said the government had foiled all conspiracies to foment sectarian violence in the province and a crackdown against the elements involved in attacks on places of worship of minorities would continue.

The government was committed to providing security to the minorities, he added.

Mr Shah said that talks with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement over its induction in the government were still under way.

The Election Commission of Pakistan had itself moved the apex court over local bodies’ elections, so if the commission issued a schedule for holding LB elections the government was bound to hold them, he said.

He said the government was taking action against illegal immigrants. The Benazir Income Support Programme and the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Youth Development Programme (BBSYDP) also continued, he said.

Badin

The chief minister called on former provincial minister for home and PPP stalwart Dr Zulfiqar Mirza at the latter’s farmhouse in Mourjhar near Badin on Wednesday, said the party sources.

The sources said the two leaders discussed important matters of the party. Before arriving at the farmhouse the chief minister had attended wedding of the nephew of PPP MPA Nawaz.
