MULTAN: As many as seven students were injured when a clash erupted between activists of two student organisations on Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) campus here on Tuesday.

Office-bearers of both the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) and the People’s Students Federation (PSF) blamed the activists of each others’ bodies for the clash.

MSF President Munawar Khan alleged the PSF activists attacked on those of his organisation after exchange of harsh words.

He said one of the MSF activists, Asad Gondal, was injured by the PSF activists. Later, he said, the MSF activists gathered and they clashed with the rivals. He said four PSF activists were also injured in the clash.

On the other hand, PSF south Punjab president Arif Shah said six activists of his organisation were injured in the clash, including the campus head Amir, Taha Faheem, Ali Raza, Rana Kamran, Rana Shafiq and Azeem Langrial. Of them, he said, Ali Raza received a bullet injury.

He said more than 80 ‘outsiders’ called by MSF attacked the PSF activists at the behest of university administration as his organisation had taken a strong position on various students’ issues, including the varsity fees.

He said the PSF activists were attacked twice; first at the canteen and then again when they were protesting outside the administration block.

He said the injured PSF activists were admitted to the hospital and they would submit an application to the administration for taking legal action against the MSF ‘goons’ after getting treatment.

BZU Resident Officer Dr Amanullah said the matter had been sent to disciplinary committee of the university and action would be taken against those responsible for the clash.

The clash continued for over two hours and the varsity administration had to call police to control the situation.
