ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to host its first high-level Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour competition in October this year, said Air Vice Marshal Syed Razi Nawab, senior vice-president of the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) on Tuesday.

Razi said this while addressing a press conference here at the Mushaf Squash Complex. “Around six years have passed since any PSA international event was held in Pakistan,” he said.

He congratulated the nation on this momentous occasion.

“The PSF has worked really hard to get the ban [on international events in Pakistan] lifted and now international players will participate in this competition here in our country,” he added.

He also acknowledged PSA support for understanding Pakistan’s stance and giving this historic decision.

The PSF under the able guidance of Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, who is also president of the PSF, chalked out a strategy of giving frequent international exposure to Pakistan players.

As a result, the players while enhancing their skills have also been able to improve their international ranking.

Razi re-emphasised that it was the responsibility of public, private sector to come forward and support the PSF in its bid to “regain and retain” our lost glory.—APP
