GORAKHPUR: Cases arising out of the Hoarding and Profiteering (Prevention) Ordinance and emergency orders promulgated by the District Magistrate are being severely dealt with in the District.

The proprietor of a local shop has been convicted and sentenced to a fine of Rs. 500 by Mr. S.P. Wattal, Magistrate, First Class, for demanding higher price from the Superintendent of Police, Gorakhpur, for a quarter pound of chocolate.

On a charge of refusing to sublet the lower portion of a house and attempting to evict a tenant occupying the upper portion in order to secure higher rent for the whole house from a new tenant, Haji Rullah, the owner of the house and his manager have been fined Rs. 1500 each.

A merchant who made a profit of annas eight has been sentenced this afternoon [April 14] by Khan Saheb Bashir Haider, City Magistrate, Fyzabad, to pay a fine of Rs. 200 or in default to undergo four months’ rigorous imprisonment. The accused Mohammed Hasan sold a tin of Cherry Blossom boot polish to Mr. R.P. Varma, Additional Civil Judge, Fyzabad at Re 1 thus making a profit of 8 annas. (Dawn, Delhi)
