Schools to open today

ISLAMABAD: Over 400 educational institutions, working under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), shall reopen on Monday after spring vacations.

An official of the FDE, who is not authorised to speak on record, said although some educational institutions opened on Saturday, majority of the students did not turn up because most of the children would return from their native cities on Sunday.

“All educational activities will start from Monday, but the students will get free-of-cost books in next few weeks. The teachers, however, will take classes and teach students from old books they have collected from the children who have moved to next classes,” he said.

A teacher of a model college, requesting anonymity, said although the schools will open on Monday, April 15 will be a holiday for the primary students because the teachers will be conducting entry tests for different classes on Tuesday.

Maqbool Ahmed, a father of three children, said that he had been considering sending his children to school from Wednesday instead of Monday.

“According to my experience, educational activities do not start on the first day after the vacations and there will be admission tests on Tuesday, so I will prefer not to send my children on Monday,” he said.
