Bahar Begum is a senior Pakistani film artist. So when she says something, it’s not an airy-fairy opinion. She’s been there, done that, in the real sense of the phrase.
Baharji is not happy with any of Pakistan’s governments, and justifiably so. She believes that while all the murmuring of the cinema industry’s revival is a nice exercise, it cannot happen without the active support of the government (as it happens in India). This she said speaking to an Urdu journo last week and was particularly critical of the Muslim League government. According to her, it’s never done anything worthwhile for the movie business.
To be honest, she has a point.
