KARACHI: An exhibition of photographs of the former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto depicting the personal and political life trajectory of the late eminent leader is under way at the Frere Hall.

The pictures, including some rare photographs, have been collected from a variety of sources for the exhibition, which has been organised by the culture and tourism department to mark Mr Bhutto’s 35th death anniversary.

The good thing about the exhibits on view is that not only do they tell the story of Mr Bhutto but they tell it in a way that befits an art exhibition. There are some very artistically shot images in which the scholarly side to the man has been highlighted.

Then there are pictures where his association with the masses is nicely depicted. For example, there are a few shots where people, from the underprivileged segment of society, are extending their applications (for redressing different grievances) to him. Mr Bhutto is looking at them with affection.

Also there are some very fine sketches of him put on the pillars of the exhibition hall.

A photograph of Mr Bhutto with his son, Shahnawaz Bhutto, taken in Naudero in 1973 shows him offering Eidul Fitr prayers. In another image, he is seen celebrating his birthday in 1975 by hunting partridges.

Mr Bhutto’s camaraderie with international political figures is known to all, which is why his meetings with some of the prominent leaders have been intelligently captured. But one image that’s quite interesting to see is of him along with Sardar Dawood of Afghanistan at Kabul Airport. It is a rare piece.

The exhibition will end on Saturday.
