KARACHI: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Capital Development Authority (CDA) clinched the remaining two semi-final places in the Patron’s Trophy (Grade-II) cricket tournament on the last day of the preliminary-round matches on Wednesday.

KPT sealed their berth when they handed Omar Associates a six-wicket defeat at the Lahore Country Club in Muridke to top Group ‘C’ with a tally of 27 points.

On the last day of the three-day game, Omar Associates added 60 more runs to their second innings’ overnight total of 73-5 before being all out for 133. Paceman Adeel Malik once again proved to be their tormentor with his second six-for in the mach.

Adeel followed his 6-55 in the first innings with six for 43, giving him outstanding match figures of 12 for 98. Chasing 144, KPT then raced to their target in just 28.3 overs.

CDA, who were not in action, qualified after Pakistan Army were denied three points when their rain-disrupted Group ‘B’ fixture against Dollar East ended with both teams failing to complete their respective innings at the Army Cricket Ground in Rawalpindi.

After Tuesday’s washed out, Army were all out for 292 before Dollar East batted out the remaining overs to finish on 188-5. Thus, Army finished second in the pool with 14 points, two behind CDA.

Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Sayid Paper Mills (SPM) had already booked their last-four places from Group ‘A’ and Group ‘D’, respectively.

The three-day semi-finals will be played from Saturday with SSGC taking on KPT at the Mirpur Cricket Stadium in Mirpur (Azad Jammu Kashmir) and CDA meeting SPM at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.

The four-day final is scheduled to be staged at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium from March 27.
