KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) qualified for semi-finals of the Patron’s Trophy (Grade-II) cricket tournament from Group ‘A’ after cruising to an emphatic innings and 88 runs victory over Saudi Cricket International here at the UBL Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Pakistan discard Awais Zia, who resumed at 108, smashed 247 from 202 balls with the help of 34 fours and six sixes and Haris Ali Khan made 118 as SGGC declared their first innings after amassing 451-3 in 70 overs.

Saudi Cricket International started their second innings 278 and were all out for 190 with Mohammad Zohaib making 50.

Slow left-armer Mohammad Irfan continued his excellent form in the tournament by snaring four for 35 to finish with match figures of eight for 89 as SSGC won with a day to spare in the three-day game.

K-Electric slumped to 100-7 after taking a 37-run lead on the first innings against Pakistan Navy who were dismissed for 218 at the Arabian Sea Country Ground.

Babar Agha was Navy’s mainstay with 96 while opener Hamza Ghanchi scored 73. Spinners Misbah Khan (4-70) and Shahzaib Ahmed Khan (3-47) shared seven wickets between them.

Sindh Police earned a first-innings of 24 by reaching 315-9 declared against Pakistan Customs at the NBP Sports Complex.

Bilal Irshad hammered 101 while Ahmer bin Nasir contributed 61. Arsalan Ahmed claimed five for 101. Customs reached 34-2 in their second innings as stumps were drawn for the day.

Rain forced second day’s play in both Group ‘B’ matches in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Omar Associates secured a vital 10-run lead by dismissing Group ‘C’ leaders Karachi Port Trust (KPT) for 167 in their first innings at the Lahore Country Club in Muridke. Paceman Ikramullah Khan picked up five wickets for 46 runs.

But Omar Associates then struggled to 73-5 in their second innings by close of play.

Face Fresh had advanced to 141-5 after resuming at 23-0 in reply to 429-4 posted by Candyland in their first innings at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot.

No play was possible in the Group ‘D’ match because of wet conditions at Lahore’s Khayaban-e-Amin Ground where Service Industries were due to resume at 234-5 in reply to Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB)’s paltry first-innings tally of 104.

Only 29 overs were possible at the LCCA Ground during which Sayid Paper Mills (SPM) had progressed from 62-1 to 173-4 in response to Khayaban-e-Amin’s 255.Medicam were in trouble at 183-8 against Higher Education Commission (HEC) who made 260 in their first innings on Monday at the Stags Cricket Ground.
