LAHORE: A group of lawyers helped eight suspects escape from police custody after a Lahore High Court judge on Monday dismissed their bail petitions in a dacoity case.

However, police arrested the ninth suspect who was also trying to escape from the court. Police had booked nine suspects on charges of injuring a citizen, Hafiz Javed, during a robbery.

The suspects through their counsel approached the LHC for pre-arrest bail. The counsel argued that police implicated his clients in a fabricated case with mala fide intention.

He said the police had no evidence against the suspects and the medical report obtained by the complainant was also fake.

The counsel asked the court to grant his clients pre-arrest bail so they could join police investigation.

However, the court dismissed the bail petitions relying on the police record. The counsel along with other associates shielded the suspects when police personnel forwarded to arrest them.

The lawyers managed to get eight suspects escaped from court while the ninth one was caught by the police.
