Suicide blast kills four women in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A suicide blast near a house in Peshawar's Essa Khel Garhi area on Monday killed four women and wounded three others, police said.

SSP Najeeb, who oversees police operations in Peshawar, said that a raid was conducted in Essa Khel area near Chamkani upon receiving information regarding the presence of suspicious persons.

During the operation a suicide bomber detonated his explosives near the house, he said.

Area residents said a few women were present at the house where Quran khwani (funeral prayers) were being held at the time of the explosion.

Senior official of the bomb disposal squad Shafqat Malik said six kilograms of high-grade explosives and pellets were used in the blast.

Separately, unknown motorcyclists gunned down three school teachers in Kach Banda area of Hangu district when they were on their way home following school duty.

District Police Officer Iftikhar Ahmed confirmed that three teachers of Government Primary School Kach Banda were shot dead.

In an unrelated incident, two brothers were killed as rivals clashed in Umarabad area of the Hangu, police said.

A polio vaccination team also came under attack in Khyber agency on Monday. Three people were reported to be injured in the attack in Landi Kotal area of the tribal region.
