ISLAMABAD: Though prominent politicians in the federal government had initially criticised Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan after he started participating in the polio campaign in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Thursday a leader of the ruling PML-N appreciated his move.

Ayesha Raza Farooq, the prime minister’s focal person on polio eradication, commended the initiative taken by the KP government to eradicate the crippling disease under the directives of Imran Khan.

In December 2013, soon after the killing of two policemen providing security to the polio teams in Swabi and a polio volunteer in Khyber Agency, Imran Khan announced his decision to personally spearhead the polio eradication efforts in the province.

In the long list of supporters who appreciated Imran Khan, the first to jump in was Asifa Bhutto Zardari, former ambassador on polio eradication and daughter of ex-president Asif Ali Zardari.
