Former South Africa spinner Pat Symcox launched a scathing attack on the national selection committee, calling it a “disgrace” after the Proteas lost the first ODI against Pakistan at Newlands on Sunday.

Symcox, who is now a TV pundit, said he was shocked at South Africa’s chop-and-change policy which was making the players look bad.

“They should stop making the players look bad. [Ryan] McLaren was recently named Man of the Series in the Proteas' previous series in the United Arab Emirates.

“He's also taken something like the third most wickets in one-day games this year.

“If I were Ryan McLaren, then I'd rather go and play in England and in the Indian Premier League,” continued Symcox.

Symcox said it's time that the selectors explain to the fans how they go about picking the national ODI team.

“It's a disgrace, they have to resign. Andrew Hudson as well. Write that!” Symcox told the Volksblad website.

The second ODI South Africa and Pakistan takes place in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday, with the third and final match scheduled for Centurion on Saturday.
