KARACHI: At least 44 suspects were arrested Monday during a targeted operation in Karachi whereas three people were killed in different incidents of violence in the city, DawnNews reported.

A couple was killed when unknown gunmen opened fire on them near Saleem Centre in Karachi’s North Nazimabad area. The victims, hailing from Surjani Town’s Khuda ki Basti, were identified as Munir Hussain and Razia respectively. The motive of the killings has not been ascertained as yet.

Separately, one person was killed in a firing incident near Kati Pahari in the city’s Orangi Town area whereas a woman sustained injuries due to firing in Korangi’s 100 quarters area.

Meanwhile, police and Rangers personnel conducted a targeted operation in Orangi Town’s Frontier Colony and Peerabad areas and arrested 34 suspects whereas 10 suspects, including two fugitives, were arrested by the SITE police. One pistol and two rifles were recovered from the arrested persons.

Karachi, the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan, is riddled with targeted killings, gang wars, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and terrorism. Targeted operations led by Rangers’ forces with the support of police are ongoing in the city under a directive issued by the federal government against criminals already identified by federal, military and civilian agencies.
