RAWALPINDI, Nov 24: The district health department has sealed two clinics and issued challans to five chemists for selling veterinary medicines for human use and using unregistered drugs in their outlets.

Executive District Officer (EDO) Health Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal told Dawn that the health department had launched the operation against private clinics and chemists shops after receiving reports that they were selling veterinary medicines to human beings.

These medicines had resulted in complications especially for dengue patients. The EDO said two drug inspectors, Naveed Anwar and Jawad Ahsan, were assigned to check clinics and chemists shops. Two of the clinics were sealed while challans were issued to five others.

“Farooqi Clinic and Munawar Clinic in Chaklala Scheme-I near Raheemabad were using veterinary medicines and were sealed,” he said.

The five clinics which were issued challans were: Zain Clinic, Ali Pharmacy and Rana Qamar Clinic at Chakri Road, and Medizone pharmacy and Kamran Medical Store at Tali Mohri Road. Dr Gondal said all drug inspectors in the district were asked to intensify the campaign against quacks and chemists shops which were running outlets without qualified pharmacists and not keeping a record of the drugs. — A Reporter
