KARACHI, Oct 7: Opener Hafiz Asad Baig and spinner Zohaib Ahmed excelled in the opening matches of the inaugural Essa Jaffer Memorial T20 Inter-club cricket tournament at the Arabian Sea Country Club Ground here on Monday.

In the first match, Vital Five CC thrashed Pak Mujahid CC by eight wickets.

Pak Mujahid CC, batting first, scored 134-5 in 20 overs. Saifullah blasted 60 off 63 balls with five sixes and three fours.

Opener Hafiz Asad Baig slammed an unbeaten 73 off 56 balls with 10 fours and Rameez Aziz made 22 not out with three hits to the fence as Vital Five CC reached the target in 17.2 overs for the loss of two wickets.

Zohaib captured four wickets for 31 runs to spin Eaton CC to a 14-run victory over Students CC in the second match of the day.

Students CC, chasing 147 for victory, was restricted to 132-7 in their 20 overs. Abdullah smashed an undefeated 56 off 59 balls with four fours and a brace of sixes.

Batting first, Eaton CC scored 146-9 in their 20 overs. Fahad Anjum scored 38 while Kashif Ahmed hit 34.

A total of 16 teams are taking part in the event which is being played on knockout basis.
