MIRANSHAH: The Pakistani Taliban on Monday said schoolgirl campaigner Malala Yousafzai had “no courage” and vowed to attack her again if they got the chance.

Gunmen sent by the Taliban tried to kill Malala on her school bus on October 9 last year.

She amazingly survived being shot in the head and has become a global ambassador for the right of all children, girls as well as boys, to go to school.

Having spread a message of “education for all” across the globe, the 16-year-old is now among the favourites for the Nobel Peace Prize, which will be awarded on Friday.

But Shahidullah Shahid, spokesman for the main Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) umbrella group, slammed Malala and said they would try again to kill her.

“She is not a brave girl and has no courage. We will target her again and attack whenever we have a chance,” Shahid told AFP.

In an interview with the BBC, Malala dismissed the threats against her life and repeated her desire to return to Pakistan from Britain, where she was flown for treatment after the attack and where she now goes to school.

She first rose to prominence during the Taliban's 2007-09 rule in Pakistan's northwestern Swat valley with a blog for the BBC Urdu service chronicling the rigours of daily life under the militants.

“She even used a fake name of Gul Makai to write a diary. We attacked Malala because she was used to speak against Taliban and Islam and not because she was going to school,” Shahid said.

While she has been feted by celebrities and world leaders across the West, in deeply conservative Swat Malala's achievements are eyed with suspicion by some.

And the Political Parties want to negotiate with TTP? It's not Malala, it's the TTP and Pakistan Govt. who have "no courage".

At the slightest rumor of insults to the religion we see so much violence in the street; But when these folks attempt to kill a young girl and after failing, again threaten to kill her, not even one fatwa is being issued against these goon. Why?

For this statement alone Mr Shahid needs to be hanged to the nearest pole !! This is a brand new definition of bravery - trying to kill an innocent little girl ! The damage these people are causing to the Muslim people around the world is un-measureable.

All the girls in Pakistan needs to become Malala. They need to become confident, brave and show courage to combat all the misdeeds of this society that are against them. They need to speak up against all the abuses that they are suffering from within their homes or outside. And regarding Taliban,we as a society needs to stand up against them as there is no hope with politicians and army.

The Taliban are not only a threat to Islam and Muslims but also a threat to the entire humanity. It is, therefore, the duty of all Muslims as well as all peace-loving Non-Muslims to join hands together to wipe out the extremists and militants, the enemies of humanity from every city, town, village, tribe and cave from the face of the earth. May Allah Help.

As long as we have Taliban sympathizers and people who keep making apologies for Talibans in Pakistan(and there are many of them in Pakistan based on the ignorant comments made by several Dawn readers) these savages will keep attacking and making threats against our daughters and mothers. Its appalling that people make comments such as , "Malala doesn't deserve any peace prize because she has not done anything" or "she is playing in hands of foreign countries and humiliating Pakistan". Most Pakistanis are now morally corrupt and mentally ill because they would rather align themselves with terrorists and have million different rationales for their support and oppose any enlightened person as long as they are perceived as "shaming the country". Is it any surprise that Pakistani's are most hated and often humiliated people in the world? If we keep up with this then we don't deserve having a country.

Malala has achieved celebrity status by her outspoken rejection of the thinking that informs the actions of the Pakistani Taliban. She says she wants to return to Pakistan and be a politician. By all means she has a right to work for the education of girls and boys and to be a politician. It is a cause for worry that after she returns to Pakistan she will be an easy target for the Taliban or for other armed groups. A country that failed to protect Benazir Bhutto is unlikely to be overly anxious to protect Malala or even have the capability to do so. If some people make it the business of their lives to kill somebody, they will succeed eventually. In Pakistan there seems to be no genuine sympathy for Malala

Malala Yusufazai must be facing an overwhelming situtation.

First the attack on her, next the health issues that came with it,her security and nomination for Nobel Prize and to top it all feted by the one and all-politicians and the show business world.

I sincerely hope that she has a few pairs of steadying hands and shoulders to lean on and bring her life back to normality as it should exist for a school girl and a vulnerable teen!.

Good luck Malala,whereever you are!

Taliban's concept of courage and bravery ! To entice and brainwash young people or teenagers into wearing the suicide bomber's jacket and murder some dozen innocent people.

To pull the trigger of AK47 and guns at unsuspecting people and then run away. Their teachings give them the license to kill: it is different from the teachings of Holy Quran and the holy prophet S.A.W. They mis-use the name of Islam. We need to get free of our culture of fear and timidity; to rid ourselves, our country, and our coming generations of this scourge of violence & ignorance.
