MIRANSHAH: A US drone strike killed six militants and injured three others on Sunday in a restive Pakistani tribal region near the Afghan border, officials said.

The strike took place in the Dargamandi area, seven kilometres (four miles) north of Miranshah which is the main town in the North Waziristan tribal region.

The US drone fire two missiles at a compound which caught fire and, according to sources, six people died on the spot and three were wounded.

The sources said that the dead and the wounded belonged to Punjab and were associated with militant commander Qari Abbas who was killed in an earlier drone strike on a car in the area.

The government, says APP, condemned the US drone strike and as a violation of the country’s sovereignty and (a threat to its) territorial integrity.

The Foreign Office spokesman called for an immediate end to US drone attacks and said Pakistan had consistently maintained that drone strikes were counter-productive, entailed loss of innocent civilian lives and had human rights and humanitarian implications. Such strikes set dangerous precedents in inter-state relations, the spokesman said in a statement.

The US drone strikes, he said, adversely affected the mutual desire of Pakistan and the US to forge a cordial and cooperative relationship and ensure peace and stability in the region.

The area targeted by the drone is said to be the stronghold of Afghanistan's Haqqani network, a guerrilla faction linked to the Taliban.

US drone attacks are deeply unpopular in Pakistan, but Washington sees them as a vital tool in the fight against militants in the lawless tribal areas along the border with Afghanistan.

The Pakistani government has repeatedly protested against drone strikes as a violation of its sovereignty. But privately officials have been reported as saying the attacks can be useful in removing militants from the country.

On these retaliation Taliban will continue to explode bombs on the Pakistani streets. US don't care of this activity they will continue their process as it is. In short US encourage Taliban to go and to do bomb blast in Pakistani streets to kill dozens of people and minorities.

Drone strikes should be popular in Pakistan why because Pakistan is weak to deal with these monsters who are playing havoc with Pakistani people and daily killing and maiming them and only course is to kill them aerially and USA has means to do this. Why they are unpopular because most support have bad judgement, being naïve, illiterates and ignorants and form majority.

Ooops !! The news need to be corrected/edited - "The area is a bastion of militants linked to the Taliban and Al-Qaeda." should actually be "The area is a bastion of MUJAHIDINs linked to the GOOD-Taliban and Al-Qaeda." After all, that's the reason we haven't had army operation there no? We will never have it either !! These are GOOD-Taliban and Mujahids. Those who have just blasted off crackers in Peshawar are "MILITANTS" and "BAD-Taliban". Also, Drones are selectively Good/Bad for Pakistan, no? The Drone-missile which has "Baitullah Mehsood" name marked on it is GOOD. If it has "Miran Shah" marked on it, its soo soo bad ... so much of collateral damage due to the later one whereas "Baitullah missile" is so good and accurate that it only kills him!

Don't blame drones - they are only saviours now as we have failed Army & security agencies. Friday is for masjid bombing, Saturday is for Church bombing & Sunday is for market bombing. Put this lesson in madrassa teachings.

Whatever happenned to the election campaign promises by PML-N and PTI to stop the drone attacks by ANY and ALL means possible? Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan never shied from beating their chests over sovereignity when the drone strikes ocurred during the PPP led regime. Why is there no peep from them now? What backdoor deals have been undertaken?

Isn't the latest strike a slap in the face. It has taken place while Nawaz Sharif is hobnobbing with the who's who of the USA government. What a bunch of sellouts.

Six militants killed, three militants wounded. Why is it that American drone strikes are doing more to rid Pakistan of terrorist than Pakistan itself? Don't fool yourself that ending drone strikes will end Taliban (and related entities) killing of others.
