RAWALPINDI, Sept 20: A young man who was shot and injured by his two schooldays friends over uploading of a girl’s photograph on Facebook in June died at the District Headquarters Hospital on Friday morning.

Syed Imran Ali Naqvi, 20, was shot on June 25 in the Waris Khan police area and since then he had been lying at the neurosurgical ward of the hospital. Imran’s uncle Mohammad Yousuf told Dawn that on September 8 the doctors at the hospital stopped his medication and advised the family to take him home.

“We arranged a hospital bed and some other necessary equipment for him at his house. The doctors had said he had 15 per cent chance of survival due to the damage to his spinal cord.”

On Thursday night, Imran complained about trouble in passing urine and he was taken to the hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead early Friday, he added.

It may be noted that Imran, Taha and Ahmed Paracha had a brawl over uploading of a photograph of a girl with some remarks on the Facebook. The girl had friendship with Paracha.

Though it is not clear who had uploaded the photograph, Imran’s friends ran into a brawl with him on June 23.

The police said two days after the brawl, Imran’s friends called him for a patch-up and tortured him. Taha then caught hold of Imran and Paracha allegedly shot him.

The police have already arrested the two accused who are in jail.

After a postmortem at the hospital, the body of Imran was buried at a local graveyard on Friday afternoon.
