LAHORE, Sept 18: A total of 38 candidates will vie for 15 seats in the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) elections for the next term.

The elections for corporate class and associate class will be held on Sept 23 and 24, respectively. Polling will continue from 9am to 5pm and provisional results will be announced on the same day after the completion of the process.

Election for the office-bearers will be held on Sept 28 and final results will be announced on Sept 30 in the annual general meeting.

As many as 20 candidates filed their nomination papers for eight seats of corporate class while 26 others filed papers for seven seats of associate class. Three corporate and five associate classes’ candidates withdrew their papers.

PIAF-Founders Alliance had already won unopposed one seat reserved for women.

According to a final list of candidates, Khalid Usman, Dr Riaz Ahmed, Bashir Ahmad Mughal, Iftikhar Ahmed, Sheikh Nasir Naseer, Lt-Col (retired) Syed M. Ayub Jafry, Riazul Hassan, Ehsanullah, Saeed Iqbal Bhatti, Ijaz Ahmad Mumtaz, Babar Mahmood Chaudhry, Nasib Ahmad Saifi, Zafar Mahmood, Muhammad Saeed, Aslam Chaudhry, Mian Afzal and Maqsood Butt are in the run for eight corporate class seats while Raja Hassan Akhtar, Muhammad Yaseen, Rehmatullah, Shahzad Zafar, Zulfiqar Ali, Muhammad Azeem, Imran Asghar, Kamran Butt, Abdul Wadood Alvi, Nadeem Asghar, Zafar Ahmed, Tahir Naeem Malik, Nadeem Butt, Imran Saleemi, Sohail Lashari, Khwaja Khawar Rashid, Talha Tayyab Butt, Raja Hamid Riaz, Rizwan Ali Khalid, Muhammad Haroon and Muhammad Akram would be contesting for seven associate class seats.

Meanwhile, the PIAF-Founders Alliance said it would soon present a comprehensive business, investment promotion plan to the government with the objective to further enhance the scope of economic activities.

An announcement to this effect was made by PIAF-Founders Alliance Chairman Mian Anjum Nisar and Steering Committee Chairman Mian Ashraf while speaking at a reception hosted by Khwaja Shahid Rasheed and Khwaja Ebsham Mehboob in honour of PIAF-Founders Alliance candidates for LCCI elections.
