KARACHI, Sept 5: A worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was gunned down in Jamshed Quarters on Thursday morning, police said.

They said Sohail Arshad, 30, was found in a critical condition on Nishter Road near the Hussaini orphanage centre. He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died during treatment.

The police said three bullet and torture marks were found on his body.

He was kidnapped in the Gujjar Nala area where he lived and was killed in Jamshed Quarters, said SHO Humayun Khan, adding that the victim was an activist of the MQM’s unit-169.

Man killed in Shah Faisal Colony

A man was shot dead in Shah Faisal Colony, the police said on Thursday.

They said some suspects called Hafizullah from his home in Shah Faisal Colony 1 and shot him dead. The police said he was a suspected criminal and had been released from jail recently. The dead, originally hailing from Larkana, might have been killed by his accomplices over some issues, they added.

‘Robber’ killed in SITE

A suspected robber was shot dead and two others were detained in an alleged encounter in SITE.

Police claimed that the suspects were standing near the Siemens roundabout when a police party approached them. In an ensuing encounter, suspect Yunus Khan was shot dead and Allauddin and Naheed were detained.

SITE SHO Tufail Ahmed claimed that the suspects were involved in looting customers of banks in the area. He said a 9mm pistol was found in the custody of the killed suspect, who originally hailed from Buner.

Man shot dead in Soldier Bazaar

A man was killed and his friend was wounded when they were attacked by four assailants in the Garden area on Thursday evening, said police.

Police said the victims were sitting in the compound of Baloch Garden apartments on Nishter Road when the assailants, one of them wearing a Burqa, attacked them and fled. Shahzeb Hussain, 35, died instantly and Javed Ali suffered wounds.

SHO of the Soldier Bazaar police station Raheem Shah said the attackers’ real target appeared to be Mr Hussain. One of the attackers confirmed his identity before opening fire, he said.

Quoting the mother of the deceased, the police officer said that Mr Hussain had been receiving threats. He believed the murder could be the outcome of a personal enmity.
