BERLIN, Sept 2: Jamaica’s Kemar Bailey-Cole won the 100-metre race at the World Challenge Meeting here for the second year in a row on Sunday.

Bailey-Cole ran 10.04 seconds to finish ahead of 2003 world champion Kim Collins of St Kitts and Nevis, and Jaysuma Saidy Ndure of Norway. American Jeffery Demps was fourth in 10.25.

LaKeisha Lawson of the US claimed the women’s 100-metre event in 11.18 seconds, ahead of Germany’s Verena Sailer and Ashleigh Nelson of Britain.

Tiffany Townsend secured another American victory in the 200 metres, winning in 22.77 seconds ahead of compatriot Charonda Williams and Kerron Stewart of Jamaica. Another American, Natasha Hastings, was fourth.

Three-time world champion Robert Harting delighted his hometown fans by winning the discus with a throw of 69.02 metres. Harting was pushed hard by compatriot Martin Wierig, who threw 66.73 metres.

Poland’s Robert Urbanek and Piotr Malachowski were third and fourth, respectively.

There were more cheers among the 55,000 fans at the Olympic Stadium for Germans Christian Reif and David Storl, who claimed victories in the long jump and shot put, respectively.

Hillary Kipsang Yego of Kenya claimed victory in the men’s 3,000-metre steeplechase in eight minutes, 8.84 seconds, while Turkey’s Ilham Tanui Ozbilen won the 1,500 metres in 3:35.58 and Mohammed Aman of Ethiopia claimed the 800 metres in 1:43.97.

Russia’s Maria Abakumova set a meet record of 70.53 metres to win the javelin, ahead of Linda Stahl of Germany and the German world champion Christina Obergfoell.

Olympic and world champion Valerie Adams of New Zealand claimed the women’s shot put with a throw of 20.58 metres.

3,000-metre steeplechase: 1. Hillary Kipsang Yego (Kenya) 8:08.84; 2. Paul Kipsiele Koech (Kenya) 8:09.31; 3. Jairus Kipchoge Birech (Kenya) 8:11.00.

Long jump: 1. Christian Reif (Germany) 8.11 metres; 2. Godfrey Khotso Mokoena (South Africa) 8.08; 3. Salim Sdiri (France) 7.87.

Pole vault: 1. Konstadinos Filippidis (Greece) 5.70 metres; 2. Jan Kudlicka (Czech Republic) 5.70; 3. Tobias Scherbarth (Germany) 5.50.
