Concerted efforts needed to fight terrorism: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said terrorism was not a problem restricted to particular regions of the country, adding that concerted efforts were required to combat the menace.

The premier made these remarks during a visit to the Interior Ministry where he also reviewed the prospects of the constitution of a new force to tackle terrorists, DawnNews reported.

Prime Minister Sharif said the state would ensure the security of the citizens and would employ all possible measures for the purpose.

The problem of terrorism is not restriction to certain regions, the premier said, adding that concerted efforts were needed to tackle the issue.

He added that consultations with the provinces was imperative to ensure that the issue of terrorism was tackled effectively.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Interior Secretary Qamar Zaman Chaudhry briefed Prime Minister Sharif on the draft of the anti-terrorism policy prepared by the ministry.

The recommendation for the constitution of a new anti-terrorist force and the idea of consultation with political leaders also came under discussion.
