LAHORE, Aug 12: Two people were killed and three injured in a shooting involving two groups of young motorcyclists on Davis Road early on Monday.

Civil Lines police said five members of a group belonging to Chah Meeran, Shadbagh were attacked by another group of motorcyclists after they exchanged words over some issue.

Police said Farzand, who was a bachelor, and Awais, father of three, succumbed to their wounds, while their fellow motorcyclists Tauseef, Sohail and Qasim suffered multiple injuries and were admitted to Services Hospital.

Police shifted the bodies for autopsies, registered a case against unknown assailants and began investigation.

SHOT DEAD: A Lahore Development Authority official was gunned down allegedly by unidentified people when he was returning home from his Johar Town office on Monday.

Police said 48-year-old Mazhar Iqbal Butt of Township was riding a motorcycle in D-II Block of Johar Town at the time of shooting.

Preliminary police inquiries showed that Mazhar had a monetary dispute with some people. The family didn’t nominate anyone in the FIR.

ENCOUNTER: A proclaimed offender was killed in a police ‘shootout’ in the Batapur area early on Monday.

Civil Lines CIA police claimed that their inspector Muhammad Rafique was heading to a Batapur locality along with his subordinates for a raid when police signalled a suspected car to stop in Attuke Awan.

Two car occupants opened fire on policemen who also retaliated. As a result, one of the assailants was killed, while the other fled.

Police identified the dead man as Ali Haider Shah of Shahdara Town who was wanted in a number of murder and robbery cases. The dead was also a hired assassin and carried Rs500,000 on his head.
