THE High Court has issued an order to seize cars without number plates or with fancy number plates. In my case, the police seized our car though we had applied for new registration. It’s been two months and we haven’t received the new number plate.

The excise and taxation department said that they did not have funds to make new number plates. And they stamped the registration paper with ‘Number plate not issued’.

Our car was stopped in the SITE area of Karachi. We were told that the court had issued orders to seize all cars without official number plates.

We showed them all the registration papers and book and also showed the stamp of ‘plate not being issued’.

But he refused to listen and our car was held up in the police station. We again went to the excise and taxation motor wing and he again stamped the same paper saying that there is no number plate that can be issued.

And it might take another month or so once new plates are being issued as the department is short of funds. We went back to the police station but he said that we couldn’t drive the car without an official number plate.

We have paid the registration fees including plate charges. Can anyone help us and others who have bought a new car? Can the court amend the order for those car owners’ new cars who are not being issued plates can drive their vehicle?
