KHAR, July 18: Two security men and three volunteers of an anti-Taliban peace committee were killed in two separate incidents of terrorism in Bajaur tribal region on Thursday.

Officials said that two security men were killed four others received injuries when militants attacked them in Kamar area of tehsil Mamond. They said that militants attacked a vehicle of the security forces with automatic weapons when the soldiers were patrolling the area in routine on Thursday night.

Tow personnel of Dir Scouts were killed on the spot and four others injured in the attack, said Abdul Haseeb Khan, a senior official of Bajaur administration. He added that the vehicle was damaged completely.

The residents of several villages and members of village defence committees sprang into action and opened firing on the attackers. The tribal elders and members of Mamond Qaumi Lashkar immediately rushed to the site and cordoned off the area. However, the assailants managed to escape.

The killed soldiers were identified as Sartaj Khan and Shah Said, residents of Dir district. The injured were taken to the agency headquarters hospital in Khar. Two of them were airlifted to Peshawar in critical condition. The security forces with the help of Levies and peace committee volunteers launched a joint search operation in the area.

The local people said that complete curfew was imposed in several parts of Mamond tehsil owing to the ongoing search operation. They said that several suspected persons and a large number of tribesmen were arrested during the search operation under the collective responsibility clause of the Frontier Crime Regulation.

Meanwhile, three members of anti-militants peace committee were killed when a remote controlled bomb went off in Mamond tehsil of the tribal region.

Local people and officials said that two peace volunteers were also injured in the blast occurred in Badan area. They said that the peace volunteers were on their way to Inayat Kallay Bazaar from their hometown Badan when their car was hit by a remote controlled roadside bomb.

They said that members of local peace committee Mohammad Jan, Said Faqir and Abdul Qadar Khan were killed in the blast. The deceased were close relatives of late Malak Rahmatullah, the founder of Mamond Peace Committee. Two others were injured in the blast, they added. The members of village defence committee and political administration launched a search operation in the area after the incident.
