LAHORE, May 5: The Pakistan Muslim League-N says it will not accept delay in general elections even for an hour.

“Postponement of elections is not acceptable to us even if it is for just one hour,” PML-N media coordinator Muhammad Mehdi told a questioner during a press conference here on Sunday.

He was responding to a query regarding Arif Nizami’s public comments in which the caretaker information minister hinted that some forces wanted to put off the polls.“We know that the elements seeing their political death in the May 11 electoral contest are behind this conspiracy and we’ll resist tooth and nail any such move,” Mehdi stressed.

He parried a direct reply when asked with whom the PML-N would ally in the formation of government in case the party failed to get a clear-cut majority in the parliament. “Only election results will reveal that who is standing with whom,” he said, hinting at new political alignments after May 11.

He, however, made it clear that his leader Nawaz Sharif would carry along all political elements irrespective of the election results.

Earlier, the PML-N leader chided PTI chairman Imran Khan for his 'dual policies’ on terror war and drones attacks.

He said “Imran talks of holding dialogue with the Taliban for local consumption but in India he had been pledging to crush them.”

Similarly, he alleged that the PTI chairman speaks of downing the drones while his team included all those elements which had allowed the attacks, a reference to ex-PTI leader and foreign minister in Musharraf cabinet Abdul Sattar, Khursheed Mahmud Kasuri and Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Referring to a PPP advertisement in which the PML-N had been blamed for torture of journalists, he said the number of journalists murdered during PPP’s last five-year term was the highest ever and regretted that not a single murder case was solved by the government.

He also recalled that over 400 journalists were behind the bars before Gen Zia ousted Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s government on July 4, 1977.
