ISLAMABAD, June 25: While a very hot and humid day is expected on Wednesday in most parts of the country in addition to prolonged loadshedding, the Meteorological Office predicted isolated rain and thunderstorm in Islamabad, Northeast Punjab, Hazara Division and Kashmir.

The maximum temperature on Tuesday was 39 degree Centigrade in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, but residents seemed more troubled compared to Monday when the maximum temperature was 41 degrees.

Officials of the Met Office attributed the suffocating weather to high humidity, which was 48 percent on Tuesday compared to 36 percent on Monday.

“The existing hot and humid conditions would invite moist air from the east,” said an official, adding that, “Heat-waves would subside on 27 and 28 June, while monsoon is set to arrive in the country on June 29.”

Satellite imagery at the met office website indicates dense cloud formation over South, Central and Northern India, and the cool westerly wave is expected to arrive in North Pakistan by Thursday evening.

The met office predicts that the first monsoon spell would continue for almost three days due to the interaction of monsoon currents and the westerly wave, bringing rainfall mainly in the upper parts of the country.

“Weak monsoon currents have already started to penetrate Kashmir and northern parts of the country, resulting in isolated rains in Upper Punjab, Kashmir and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” a spokesman of the Met Office said. — A Reporter
