GUJRANWALA, June 20: A boy shot dead a hand-cuffed man on Thursday on sessions court premises, who was accused of attacking his father, in the presence of police and court security officials.

Following the shooting the security officials overpowered the boy, recovered a pistol from him and handed him over to police. The hand-cuffed accused, Hafiz Ghias, died on the spot.

Later, the minor accused identified as Gohar Nawaz (12), a Class-VIII student at a private school at Kangniwala locality, told police that on Jan 18, 2012, Ghias along with his six accomplices forced his entry into their house.

The boy said the intruders tied up the hands and feet of his father, Nawaz Bhinder, and his mother (M) and opened fire on them. He said the attackers locked him and his siblings in a room. He said his father’s legs were badly damaged in the firing and he was not able to walk. The boy alleged that the attackers also took away Rs60,000 cash.

Sabzi Mandi police had registered a case against Ghias and his accomplices on the report of Nawaz Bhinder.

The boy said after seeing his father’s painful condition, he decided to take revenge and bought a pistol form a Pashto-speaking man who also trained him how to use it.

He said he brought the pistol inside the court in a ladies’ handbag that was not frisked by the police.

A few days ago, Haider Nawaz, brother of the accused, had also opened fire on Ghias but he escaped while two passersby suffered injuries. Police had registered a case against his brother.

The police said accused Hafiz Ghias was being escorted to the court of judicial magistrate Muhammad Jamil Bhatti in an illegal arms case when he was attacked. His body was shifted to local DHQ hospital for an autopsy.

District and Sessions Judge Tariq Iftikhar and other judges reached the spot and got information about the incident. Later, the D&SJ called an emergent meeting of police and judicial officer and reviewed the security measure at the court.

He directed city police officer to make tight security arrangements for the accused involved in old enmity cases before bringing them in courts.

The meeting was attended by District Bar Association president Irfan Saeed, secretary Rana Waqas Hasan, acting city police officer Capt Ata Muhammad Meo (retired) and other senior officers.

Meanwhile, the CPO suspended Assistant Sub-Inspector Abdul Rashid, Head-Constable Muhammad Shahbaz and four constables -- Luqman, Mushtaq, Farrukh Mehmood and Navid Ahmad from service on charges of negligence and issued them show-cause notices.

These police officials were deployed at the main gate of the session court and failed to properly frisk the boy who managed to bring the pistol inside the court.
