LAHORE, June 10: Punjab Ombudsman Javed Mehmood has resolved the grievance of the widow of a patwari after 39 years and ordered the Punjab accountant general to pay the GP Fund amount with a 39-year profit to the widow within a month and submit a report to the Mohtasib Punjab Pension Cell.

At the time of retirement in 1974, the GP Fund amount of Muhammad Arshad, who was a patwari in the Irrigation Department, was Rs361 and the ombudsman has ordered to pay Rs93,293 with the profit up to June 2013.

Hanifan Bibi of Chunian tehsil submitted an application to the ombudsman that her husband had retired in 1974 and an amount of Rs361 of his GP Fund was outstanding against the AG office.

She said her husband had been running from pillar to post till his death to get this amount. She said she too had been running from pillar to post to the Irrigation Department, District Accounts Office, Kasur, and the AG Office for the GP Fund amount during the last 39 years, but to no avail.

The ombudsman ordered Mohtasib Punjab Pension Cell in-charge and adviser Wazir Ahmed Qureshi to inquire into the matter.

Mr Qureshi called for record from the Irrigation department and the AG Punjab and found that no payment was made to the widow by the AG office.
